Since April 2023, Sergio P. Ermotti has been Group CEO of UBS Group AG and Chairman of the Executive Board of UBS AG. He was already CEO of UBS between 2011 and 2020. In between, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swiss Re.
Ermotti, 63 years old from Ticino, is a certified banking expert and studied at Oxford University. He started his banking career between 1987 and 2004 in leading positions at Meryll Lynch and from 2005 to 2010 he worked in the Group Executive Board of Unicredit AG.
Sergio Ermotti is married and has two sons.
"The acquisition of Credit Suisse is a very important moment for UBS, but also for the Swiss financial centre and for Switzerland itself. We feel this responsibility," said Sergio Ermotti, the former and, since April 2023, also new CEO of the big bank, on the SEF stage in an interview with Urs Gredig. "The next few months will be bumpy, but we are very focused." One should not let oneself be guided by nostalgia and feelings in the reorganisation, but rather rely on the facts, the 63-year-old Ticino native said. He would create the necessary structure so that the bank could offer its clients the best possible services and also satisfy its shareholders. In the process, jobs would also have to be cut. After all, a good bank is a profitable bank. And Ermotti wants to restore trust. "A good banker is one who creates trust.
