Karl-Erivan W. Haub studied economics and social sciences at the University of St. Gallen and graduated from the University of St. Gallen, Graduate in business administration. He also completed an apprenticeship as a retail buyer. He worked in the United States for Nestlé and then in Düsseldorf, Germany, as an advisor at McKinsey. In 1991 he joined Tengelmann, a family-owned company, and took over the responsibility for the operational European business in 1997. Since 2000 he has been the managing director and personally liable partner of the Tengelmann Group, which generates sales of 24 billion euros through all its holdings and employs more than 165,000 people. Since 2015 Haub has been chairman of the global Family Business Network (FBN). Haub is not only familiar with large corporations, but he also feels right at home in the (digital) start-up scene and has invested in Internet companies such as Zalando and Uber.
