Dr Eric Scheidegger is Acting Director of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and has served as Head of the Eco-nomic Policy Directorate since February 2012. Dr Scheidegger studied economics at the University of Basel. After a period in research and teaching posts, he became a business reporter for the Neuer Zürcher Zeitung. In 1998, Dr Scheidegger was appointed personal advisor to Pascal Couchepin, who was a member of the Swiss Federal Council at the time. Dr Scheidegger moved to SECO in 2002, where he served as Head of the Promotion Activities Directorate until January 2012. The Promotion Activities Directorate is responsible for SME policy, tourism, regional policy and promoting Swiss exports.
