Sanna Marin

Former Prime Minister of Finland (2019-2023)

A former Finnish Prime Minister and leader of the Social Democratic Party of Finland, Sanna Marin is currently a consultant for the Institute for Global Change. Ecological values have also shaped her politics, in which she has been actively involved since 2006.Marin was elected in her first parliamentary candidacy in 2015 and was a member of the Grand Committee, the Legal Affairs Committee and the Environment Committee. In August 2020, she also took over the chairmanship of the Social Democratic Party.Her government is considered highly successful in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, and led Finland through the fastest NATO accession process after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.Marin's government has implemented groundbreaking reforms, including the world's most ambitious climate legislation, with a target of carbon neutrality by 2035. Other reforms include family leave, healthcare, education and human rights.
